Great Barrington — Around 4:35 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, a fire was reported at the Formel Auto Salvage location at 21 Van Deusenville Rd. According to the Police Department’s Facebook page, the fire was contained two hours later. Smoke was seen throughout town during the fire itself. The Berkshire Edge has contacted Fire Department Chief Charles Burger multiple times for comment, but he has not responded. In an email to The Berkshire Edge, Police Chief Paul Storti wrote that he believes the fire emitted from a stack of crushed cars, but he deferred to Fire Chief Burger for further details. The cause of the fire, the extent of damages to the property, and the possible environmental impacts from the fire, are all unknown.
