Pittsfield resident killed in hit-and-run

The driver in the incident fled the scene, and police are seeking information from the public.

Pittsfield — William Colbert, 69, was killed in a hit-and-run incident in the city on Tuesday, February 10, between 11:33 p.m. and 11:49 p.m.

According to Berkshire District Attorney’s Office Chief Operating Officer Julia Sabourin, Colbert was struck by a car in the Linden Street/Francis Avenue area.

“After being struck, he became trapped under the vehicle and was dragged a lengthy distance, ultimately coming to rest on the road around 1350 West Housatonic Street,” Sabourin writes in an email. “The driver fled the scene. Pittsfield Police are actively seeking information about the incident. Police believe the vehicle may have traveled on Linden Street, Robbins Avenue, Daniels Avenue, Columbus Avenue, Onota Street, South Merriam Street and West Housatonic Street.”

Sabourin added: “Information possibly related to the event including any footage from security systems can be forwarded to dhallas@cityofuittsfield.org or adayton@cityofpittsfield.org, or arrangements can be made for it to be picked up. Information can be forwarded to Officer Anthony Dayton at 413-448-9700 Ext. 543 or Sergeant David Hallas at Ext. 560.”
