Alleged perpetrator in Pittsfield fatal hit and run incident arrested

Further details, along with an arraignment date, have not been released.

Pittsfield — William Gross, 65, of Hancock, was arrested on Monday, February 16 for his alleged involvement in a fatal hit and run incident.

According to a press release by Berkshire County District Attorney Chief Operating Officer Julia Sabourin, Gross was arrested and charged with Motor Vehicle Homicide, and Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting in Personal Injury or Death.

On Tuesday, February 10, between 11:33 p.m. and 11:49 p.m., William Colbert, 69, was killed in the hit-and-run incident after being struck by a car in the Linden Street/Francis Avenue area.

Reports from various sources state that, after being struck, Colbert became trapped under the vehicle and was dragged a lengthy distance, ultimately coming to rest on the road around 1350 West Housatonic Street.
