To the editor:
The passing of Jeane Weinstein at the age of 90 will be greatly lost for Veterans of South County. Last year, Miss Jeane, a resident of Geer Nursing Center in Canaan, Conn., found out that the Murphy-Leary American Legion, Post 298 of Housatonic was having their annual poppy drive and requested poppies for the nursing center to help support the Relief Fund for Veterans in Need. She set up a table with an American Flag, poppies and a picture of her late husband Sydney in uniform with his medals. In no time at all she sold out her inventory and requested additional poppies — to the surprise of our Post. She raised a great deal of money that was put to use to help our Veterans. Her passion for Veterans will not be forgotten.
