Pittsfield resident charged with firearm assault and heroin possession

Resident Ixander Pereira, 22, has been charged with one count of Assault With a Dangerous Weapon, a firearm, and Possession of a Class A Substance, heroin.

Pittsfield — Resident Ixander Pereira, 22, was arrested by the Police Department on Tuesday, January 13, and charged with one count of Assault With a Dangerous Weapon (a firearm) and Possession of a Class A Substance (heroin).

According to a press release issued by Lieutenant John Soules, at around 6:34 p.m. on January 13, members of the department’s patrol division responded to a call at the 500 block of North Street.

Officers learned that a resident was threatened by a man with a firearm and that the potential suspect was in an apartment along with multiple other people.

Additional officers were called to the scene, including members of the department’s anti-crime unit.

Officers were allowed into the apartment and arrested Pereira with no incident.

While no firearm was recovered, officers discovered bags of material consistent with heroin on Pereira.

He is expected to be arraigned in Pittsfield District Court.
