Lawrence A. ‘Sonny’ Barbieri Jr., 87, of Great Barrington, co-owner of Barbieri Lumber

Lawrence A. “Sonny” Barbieri Jr., 87, died Sunday January 29, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Lawrence was born on January 4, 1930 in Great Barrington to Lawrence Sr. and Rosella “Ruth” (Walker) Barbieri. He was educated in local schools and proudly served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Army.

Lawrence was co-owner of Barbieri Lumber in Housatonic and drove a tractor trailer for Thomas Palmer Lines and Barbieri Lumber as an independent truck driver with his own truck. He was a member of American Legion Post #298 in Housatonic and was one of the original founders of S.B.V.A.S.

Lawrence’s wife Dorothy (Abbott) Barbieri whom he married on February 12, 1955 predeceased him on December 26, 2011.

Lawrence is survived by two sons, Frederick Barbieri of Housatonic and Arthur Barbieri and his wife Dawn of Housatonic; two daughters, Nora Babcock and husband Ron of Great Barrington and Audrey Barbieri of Great Barrington; nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Lawrence was predeceased by his brother James Barbieri.

Funeral services for Lawrence A. Barbieri Jr. will be held on Thursday February 2 at 11 a.m. at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington MA 01230. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Housatonic.

Family will receive friends on Thursday February 2 from 10 to 11 a.m. at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in Lawrence’s memory may be made to S.B.V.A.S. in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be made through birchesroyfuneralservices.com.
