I WITNESS: Erasing democracy is easier than you think

Dee proudly served in the U.S. Army and was the owner of the former Taconic Builders Supply in Great Barrington.

Arnold Hayes, 89, of Monterey

After retirement he played with various local bands, and later formed his own group called the Lazy River Jazz Band.

Massimo Bachetti, 94, of Sheffield

After serving his country, they settled in Sheffield and Mossy began working at the former Jenifer House as a shipping manager until his retirement in 1980.

Gary F. Pignatelli, 75, of Lenox

Gary was a life-long parishioner of St. Ann’s Church. He also was a member of the Lenox Police Association and the Lenox Volunteer Fire Department. Gary spent many years coaching basketball, volunteering his time with the Lenox Youth Basketball Association.

Charles Stickles Jr., 71, of Peru

Charlie was employed for 32 years by the U.S. Postal Service and retired as the Middlefield postmaster in 2012.

John Downie, 96, of Canaan, Conn., formerly of Great Barrington and Sheffield

John began his insurance career with companies in Newark, New Jersey, and in Boston and later joined the Wheeler & Taylor agency in Great Barrington. He served as its president from 1976 until his retirement in 1985.

Raymond Wells, 74, of Sheffield

Later in life Raymond went on to continue his education. He received a degree from the Gemological Institute of America in 1980 and Berkshire Community College in 2001.

Horse racing would undermine Great Barrington’s character

This is a great place and horse racing and simulcasting/OTB would seriously detract from what GB and Southern Berkshire County represent.

Walter Linkovich, 93, of Sandisfield

He worked for Johnson Electric in Newington, Connecticut, for 20 years, after which he continued work as the community electrician.

Thomas E. Andrus, 92, of Monterey

From 1965-2005, Tom was a volunteer fireman for the town of Monterey and during that time, saw the construction of the new firehouse.

John R. Dinan Sr., 93, of New Marlborough, Mass., owner of Corashire Antiques

Mr. Dinan opened his own antique store, Corashire Antiques, with his wife and was known for his meticulous restorations and custom-made tables. He was one of the founders of the Berkshire County Antiques Dealers Association.

Clyde Clark, 81, of Southfield

Clyde worked for many years as a contractor building homes.

George P. Adams 93, of Lenox

He was at Great Barrington Savings Bank for 32 years, the last 19 of which he served as president and CEO.

William ‘Bill’ F. Muller, 80 of Great Barrington

Bill worked as a manager for First National, drove for Pete’s Motors and was a bartender at Graham’s on Railroad Street.

Stanley Szwyd, 95, of Housatonic

His four siblings had all been told that he had been killed during the war. His sister was in disbelief when she heard from him. His family had already held a funeral for him, believing that he had died in captivity.

Raymond George Le Beau, 90, of Palmyra, Pennsylvania, former City Savings Bank of Pittsfield president

Mr. Le Beau worked at the former Union Federal Savings Bank in Pittsfield and Springfield from 1951 to 1959 and at the former City Savings Bank of Pittsfield from 1959 until he retired as president and CEO in 1995.
