John (Jack) Blume, 80, of Sheffield

He joined the Air Force in 1952 and served until 1956. He was a prisoner of war and received numerous medals.

John (Jack) William Blume, 80 years old, of Sheffield, Mass., passed away on September 28 at 11:05 a.m. surrounded by his family.

He was born in Boston on July 2, 1935 to John Joseph and Helen Marie (Harrington) Blume. Jack attended Dedham, Mass., public schools.

He joined the Air Force in 1952 and served until 1956. He was a prisoner of war and received numerous medals. Upon his return to the states, he became an electrician and went on to hold a master electricians license. He was married to Jaye Carole Floyd on May 10, 1958.

Jack was a past member of M.E.C.C.A., Boy Scouts of America, Kiwanis, as well as being a Massachusetts Electrical instructor. He was a 50-year friend of Bill W’s who was well known for his open door policy and lending a hand to anyone who needed it.

In his life, he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, photography, his beloved boxer dogs and setting up his home for the holidays. He loved the outdoors, especially camping with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Jaye; his sister, Ellen Samar and her husband Tom Lefferman of Florida; his children, John and his wife Susan of Vermont, Douglas and his wife Honor of Sheffield, Maureen of California, Michael and his wife Rebecca of Sheffield; eleven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Carole Jes Carson and his two brothers Paul and Tom.

Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 7th at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield, Mass.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 6 from 4 – 8 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington, Mass.
