Nicholas Mario Dapretto, 86, of Stockbridge died Saturday April 8, at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington.
Nicholas was born on July 6, 1930, in New York City, the son of Enrico and Mary (Paolini) Dapretto. He was educated in New York schools. Nicholas proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Nicholas worked in A&P stores in New Jersey before the war and after as a produce manager. Nicholas also worked as an advertising and merchandise manager for Macrose Lumber in Long Island. He lived in South Egremont from 1970-86, then back to Long Island for two years, then to Lenox for 10 years and lived in Stockbridge since 2000. He was a past member of the James A. Modolo Post # 8348, American Legion and a third degree in the Knights of Columbus in Long Island. Nicholas enjoyed baseball, fishing, bowling and drumming and was an avid softball and Red Sox fan.
Nicholas is survived by his wife, Carmela (Miglino) Dapretto, whom he married on April 16, 1955, in St. Cyril Church on Long Island; seven daughters: Catherine Collins and husband, Christopher, of Old Chatham New York, Virginia Dapretto Stines and husband, Russell, of San Bruno, California, Christine Bleau and husband, Ronald, of Becket, Norma Gulotta and husband, Edward, of Sheffield, Nina Weiler and husband, David, of Becket, Theresa Kern and husband, James, of Sheffield, and Nicole Snyder and husband, Joseph, of Sequim, Washington; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Nicholas Dapretto will be held on Monday, April 17, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield with Reverend Bruce Teague, Pastor, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Saint Peter’s Cemetery in Great Barrington. Family will receive friends on Monday, April 17, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
