Let nothing more weighty than the size of a match box and the number of letters it could hold limit local news reporting in these tense times.

Josephine Mallory, 94, formerly of Great Barrington

She worked as a switchboard operator for Wheeler and Taylor, then for the General Electric's drafting department in Pittsfield, the E.M. Ryder Jewelry Store in Great Barrington, and then was the assistant town clerk for the town of Great Barrington for 11 years.

Lucy Hankey, 92, of Mill River

They frequently went to the ITAM Lodge in Pittsfield to listen to the bands and so Lucy could dance. She liked to do the polka, which she continued to do until she was 86 years old.

Leno Collari, 91, of Great Barrington

Leno worked as a storekeeper for the highway department for the state of Massachusetts for over 40 years.

Raymond Bazonski, 83, of Great Barrington

Raymond worked as a paper maker for Kimberly Clark for 39 years, retiring in 1987.

Joyce TenBroeck, 84, of Niverville, N.Y., formerly of Great Barrington

Joyce worked for the Boston Insurance Group in Albany; for the Montgomery Ward catalog store in Great Barrington from 1965 until the store closed in 1975; then as a teller for the Great Barrington Savings Bank, retiring in 1995 after 20 years.

Richard J. Aloisi, 82, of Great Barrington

In 1970, he established his own company, RJ Aloisi Electric Inc., which is today run by his son Jeffrey.

Cadre of residents, merchants look to repeal plastic water bottle ban

While a long list of businesses and other organizations said they supported the new bylaw, it did not sit did well with a number of other merchants, who felt the ban would harm their businesses or who objected on the grounds of legislative overreach. 

Kenneth TenBroeck, 86, of Niverville, N.Y., formerly of Great Barrington, owner of Ken’s Barber Shop

In 1960, he opened his own barber shop, Ken’s Barber Shop, which he owned for 63 years, starting on Railroad Street in Great Barrington and then moving to his location on South Main Street in 1977.

Barbara Ann Lamanno, 76, of Sheffield, lover of fashion

Regardless of the event she was always glamorous. She topped off every outfit with a fancy hat.

Nicholas Dapretto, 86, of Stockbridge

He was a past member of the James A. Modolo Post # 8348, American Legion and a third degree in the Knights of Columbus in Long Island.

Grace K. Rockefeller, 89, formerly of Great Barrington

She was a bookkeeper for Palmer Lines Trucking Co. and later an aide for Massini Bus Co., all while raising her three children.

Raymond Choquette, 72, of Great Barrington

Ray was a past commander of and very active member of the James A. Modolo (VFW) Post #8348 in Great Barrington. He served as a volunteer fireman in North Egremont.
