Great Barrington – Chief Charles Burger reports that the Great Barrington Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle crash Friday evening in which they had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate two people from their vehicles.
On Friday, Nov. 4, at approximately 6 p.m., the Great Barrington dispatch center received multiple calls reporting a motor vehicle crash in front of 333 State Road.
Great Barrington Fire and Police, along with Southern Berkshire Ambulance, were dispatched to the scene. Great Barrington Fire arrived on scene within minutes and found a Subaru Legacy in the roadway and a Nissan Murano on its side, leaning against a utility pole. All patients were conscious when first responders arrived.
Firefighters worked to extricate the driver of the Subaru by removing the driver’s side of the vehicle. The driver of the Nissan was able to free himself from the vehicle, but firefighters had to extricate the passenger using the Jaws of Life to cut the roof back.
All three occupants were removed from the vehicles in less than 30 minutes and transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“We put all of our extrication equipment to work simultaneously,” Chief Burger said. “Thankfully, we are equipped for incidents like these and no one was critically injured. This was an example of great teamwork between police, fire and EMS.”
The Great Barrington Police Department is investigating this incident.
