To the editor:
Our country is being run by an authoritarian who has no regard for the rule of law, international norms, our Constitution, or human decency. Donald Trump told The New York Times that the only limit on his power is his “own morality,” saying, “It’s the only thing that can stop me.”
That is frightening. Trump refuses to take responsibility, or apologize, for killing scores of school girls in the opening salvo of his illegal war on Iran. He falsely claimed, “It was done by Iran,” despite clear evidence to the contrary. His campaign of terror against immigrants has murdered U.S. citizens. He pardoned January 6 rioters who violently attacked Capitol police officers. He called Jeffrey Epstein a “terrific guy.” He told his nephew to let his disabled son die.
But Trump is wrong. We can stop him. To do so we need to keep reminding him and his MAGA loyalists that we live in a constitutional democracy, not a monarchy.
That is why I will be with South County Resistance for the March 28 No Kings national mobilization in front of Great Barrington Town Hall from noon to 1:30 p.m. It is one of nearly 3,000 events already planned in all 50 states. You can find the Great Barrington or other Berkshire County rallies at nokings.org.
Since the No Kings rallies last October, Trump has repeatedly doubled down. He has launched wars with no coherent strategy; invaded cities with his secret police; taken away healthcare, food assistance, and workers’ rights; relentlessly worked to suppress your freedom to vote; and defied Congress, courts, the Constitution, and international law at every turn. Not to mention, he has led the most corrupt, self-dealing administration in American history.
In the face of fascism, we cannot back down. We cannot let ourselves be silenced.
By taking to the streets again on March 28, we can make sure Trump hears us loud and clear: Patriots fought a revolution to rid ourselves of kings. And we are not going to let him take that away from us.
