Lenox — If you have limited interest in the standard repertoire and are up for a bit of musical adventure, then Sunday’s concert at the Linde Center for Music and Learning may be just for you. On Sunday, Feb. 23, at 3 p.m., retired principal trombone of the Boston Symphony Orchestra Ronald Barron and friends will give a concert that will probably be the first time you’ve heard music from an ensemble consisting of four trombones, one piano, one trumpet, one double bass and percussion. (One can guess that such a lineup searches far and wide for suitable scores.)
It’s important to note that Mr. Barron’s friends are all musicians of such caliber that we shouldn’t even care what their program is going to be. It will be good no matter what tonally centered music they play. So you needn’t be frightened if you are familiar with few names other than Hindemith and Dorsey on this list:
HINDEMITH Sonata for Alto Horn and Piano
EWAZEN Elizabethan Songbook
Saskia APON Quartet No. 1
Steven WINTEREGG Latin Dances
DORSEY Three Moods
Clarence WOODS Slippery Elm Rag
Joseph LAMB Ragtime Nightingale
CLARKE Bride of the Waves
And here is the whole band:
- Ronald Barron, trombone
- Larry Wallach, piano
- Allan Dean, trumpet
- Ian Striedter, trombone
- David Kidd, trombone
- Cameron Owen, bass trombone
- Lawrence Wolfe, double bass
- David Fields, percussion
- Bailey Forfa, percussion
