POEM: Near you

Thoughts about love for Valentine's Day

Love holds my hand
through dark nights of worry
to the point of exhaustion.
Only then does sleep take me –
a respite of peace
before a new wave of anxiousness
steals me from my blissful state.

Yet, next to me
love sleeps soundly on his pillow
deeply breathing warmth on my skin.
This rhythm and heat
like a lullaby –
soothes.

This love’s solid bone and muscle
against my skin
slays the night time agonies.
