Great Barrington — A local man has been arrested, and police seized 228 bags of heroin, after a several-month investigation by Great Barrington Police and a county drug task force.
Eli G. Luttenberger, 21, of Christian Hill Rd., was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of a Class A Substance with Intent to Distribute (Heroin)
- Distribution of a Class A Substance (Heroin) (Five Counts)
On the evening of Dec. 6, Great Barrington Police conducted a traffic stop on Main Street in Great Barrington. An investigation determined that one of the passengers, identified as Luttenberg, was in possession of a large quantity of heroin.
The traffic stop and arrest came after a multi-month investigation, which included surveillance, looking into reported drug dealing in South Berkshire County. The investigation was conducted by Great Barrington Police and the Berkshire County Drug Task Force, made up of municipal and county law enforcement officers.
“Heroin is a national public health and criminal justice crisis. This arrest should send a clear message that law enforcement in Berkshire County is extremely vigilant in seeking out those who profit from the sale of heroin and other deadly drugs,” Chief Walsh said. “I am very proud of the aggressive, diligent work of our officers in arresting this alleged drug dealer.”
Chief Walsh wishes to single out Officer Christopher Peebles and Sgt. Adam Carlotto for their work on this case.
Luttenberg, who was on probation for another matter, was ordered held on $5,000 bail. A judge later revoked his probation and remanded him to the Berkshire House of Correction.
