The storefronts on Railroad Street in Great Barrington are always changing. The Girling Block, shown in the photograph above by Marie Tassone, was built in the 1870s. In the 1960s, the Pizza House was a popular restaurant here before moving to its present location on State Road. In earlier decades — starting in the 1890s — it was Larkin’s Grocery Store, then later The Hub Delicatessen.
Beginning in 1972, the building was home to the Snap Shop — the premiere place in the southern Berkshires for all things camera-related. It is shown below in a 1984 photograph taken by Don Victor. Next door was the legendary Graham’s Bar, and to the right of that, Krol’s Jewelers. Today the Snap Shop is for sale.
