Anita Macchi, 73, of Sheffield, Mt. Everett graduate

Anita was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield. She was a member of the Sheffield American Legion and the Wyantenuk Country Club.

SHEFFIELD – Mrs. Anita G. Hitchcock Macchi, 73, of Sheffield, Mass. and Venice, Fla., passed away August 21, 2017 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston following a brief illness.

A native and lifelong resident Anita was born in Great Barrington, Mass., on May 23, 1944, one of six children of the late Wallace and Matilda Trierweiler Hitchcock. She was a graduate of Mount Everett High School, class of 1962 and attended secretarial school in Stamford, Conn.

Anita had a very warm welcoming spirit and once you met her you were friends for life. Above all else she cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was known for her bargain hunting and was an excellent thrift shopper.

She was a big James Taylor fan. She attended his concert at Fenway Park and every July when he was at Tanglewood she was always sure to be there.

Anita was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield. She was a member of the Sheffield American Legion and the Wyantenuk Country Club.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Stephen Macchi, whom she married on January 6, 1973 at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield; three children, her son Dean Durant Macchi and wife Kimberly of Wayland, Mass., and their children Alexis, Talia and McKenzi; her son Mark Macchi of Pittsfield, Mass., and her daughter Dailyn Macchi of Florida. She also leaves her sister Nancy Porter and husband Paul of Venice, Fla., her brother Mathias Hitchcock and sister Michele Hitchcock Brooks both of Sheffield.

Besides her parents she was also predeceased by her brother Wallace C. Hitchcock Jr. and sister Jeanne Rini.

SERVICES: The funeral for Anita G. Macchi will be held on Friday, August 25 at 12 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington, conducted by Rev. Bruce Teague.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 25th from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

A graveside service for Stephen Joseph Tynan will be held on Thursday, March 19, at 10 a.m. in Saint Peter’s Cemetery, with Reverend William P. Murphy, pastor, officiating. Family will receive friends at a calling hour from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Candace Gerard will be held on Friday March 20, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home, with Reverend William P. Murphy officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 20, from 9 to 10 a.m.

Thomas B. Finn Jr., 75, of Pembroke, Mass.

A celebration of life will be held in his honor on March 28 at Indian Pond Country Club in Kingston, Mass.
