Great Barrington — February 2019 was warmer and drier than average. It was 3 degrees warmer with less precipitation.
The now 54-year rainfall is normally about 2.3 inches and snow accumulation is 14 and a half, which would melt down to an inch and a half of water. But this year, there were only 9 inches of snow, which melted to less than 1 inch of water — that made this February the 17th driest.
With the storm track mostly to our west thanks to the jet stream track, we were mostly on the warm side. So, the month’s temperature average was 3 degrees warmer than average, which made it the 10th warmest February since 1965.
Now, on to March. Hopefully Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction of an early spring will come true.
Last year, March produced over 42 inches of snow. I’ve always said to forget the media hype; we will get whatever Mother Nature doles out — but we can hope.
