Alfred G. Cardinal, 86, went to be with his beloved wife of 56 six years, Jean, and son Jeffery in heaven on Sept. 30. Alfred was born in North Adams March 9, 1931, the son of Alfred and Cecilia (Gordon) Cardinal. After high school Alfred went on to college where he received a degree and was in the ROTC program. After college Alfred served his country with the U.S. Army Reserves during the Korean War where he attained the rank of first lieutenant. Alfred worked for 35 years as an assessment assigning engineer for the New England Telephone Company. Alfred was a member of the American Legion, enjoyed watching golf on TV and spending time with his family. One of Alfred’s favorite things to do was to meet up with his granddaughters for Thursday Date Night at the Barrington Brewery where the staff there treated him like family. Alfred’s wife, Jean (Plourde) Cardinal, whom he married Oct. 20, 1956, predeceased him Aug. 11, 2013.
Alfred is survived by two daughters: Michelle Jones and husband Tom of Great Barrington and Deborah Frigon and husband Ed of Housatonic; five sons: Alan Cardinal and wife Sylvia of Maine, Craig Cardinal and wife Cheryl of Florida, John Cardinal of Maine, Tom Cardinal and wife Debbie of Florida and Brian Cardinal and wife Lisa of Florida; nine grandchildren: Kara, Amanda, Jessica, Adam, Morgan, Sarah, Stephen, Michael and Kali; and six great-grandchildren: Lily, Wyatt, Abigail, Matilyn, Azalea and Beckett. In addition to his wife, Alfred was predeceased by his son Jeffery P. Cardinal.
Funeral services for Alfred G. Cardinal will be held Friday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230 with Rev. William P. Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Peter’s Cemetery in Great Barrington. The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 6, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME.
