Every line has been crossed

America, your light has been dimmed. Your promise broken.

To the editor:

Every line has been crossed.

The line between decency and cruelty has been crossed.

The line between truth and falsehood was crossed long ago.

The line between policy and sedition, crossed.

The line between law enforcement and murder in the name of the law has been crossed.

The line between science and quackery has been crossed.

The line between chaos and order has been crossed.

The line between America’s ascent and decline has been crossed.

The line between democracy and tyranny has been crossed.

The line between morality and hypocrisy has been crossed.

The line between loyalty to a just cause and cowardly obedience to a venal, vicious man has been crossed.

The line between a courageous legal profession and submission to a thug has been crossed.

The line between reverence for our Constitution and disdain for its advocacy on behalf of justice for all has been crossed.

The line between equal justice under the law and callous disregard for the law has been crossed.

The line between humility and blind, selfish, rapacious greed has been crossed.

The line between respect for the institutions of government and abandonment of the equality of the branches has been crossed.

The line that separated the equal sovereignty of the states from the overreach of the federal government has been crossed.

The line that was drawn in the name of peace after World War II with the creation of the NATO alliance has not merely been crossed, but has been ridiculed, ignored, and attacked.

The line between the sanctity of suffrage and racism has been unapologetically crossed.

The lines that have been drawn to protect our citizens from abject poverty, from hunger, and from the enormous cost of illness and disease have been crossed and made the playthings of arrogant, frightened politicians.

America, your light has been dimmed. Your promise broken.

And who is responsible for this? Trump and his coterie of masked, jack-boot brown shirts, thugs and pardoned criminals, as well as those spineless, frightened politicians who have enabled the insanity and sadly, tragically, the Supreme Court Justices who immunized Trump against accountability and opened wide the door to tyranny.

For those of you who have been complicit, it is not too late to understand the enormity of what you have done and to bravely and publicly denounce what you once blindly embraced.

Why I’m participating in the No Kings national mobilization

We can stop Trump. To do so we need to keep reminding him and his MAGA loyalists that we live in a constitutional democracy, not a monarchy.
