POEM: The door opens

So much to cherish and lean on as the year unfolds —each day a miracle.

It is that time again
we reach for the sweet possibilities
of the new year.
Again, and again, the door opens
to the next twelve months of promise.

It is that time of the season
we walk snow-filled paths
shining pure white
among the dark, tall trees —
a contrast in nature
showcasing its beauty and diversity.

Wildlife returns to its winter haven —
birds at the feeders
turkeys flaunting fantastic feathered fans
the sweet-faced doe alert and still
red tail soars above.

The moon nestled amid the stars
glows in the evening sky —
a touchstone of time and comfort
through the ages.

So much to cherish and lean on
as the year unfolds —
each day a miracle.
