Lee — With an on-site ceremony at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 24, the Town of Lee will kick off the beginning of the demolition of existing West Center Street houses that will make way for the Eagle Mill Redevelopment project, Select Board Chair Bob Jones announced at the group’s July 18 meeting. The public is invited.
Jones said that the houses to be torn down “have a lot of very fond memories for many residents of the Town of Lee.” He said, “I expect quite a few people will be there and it should be quite a sight to behold.”
According to its website, the mixed-use project is slated to include 122 apartments, funded in part by tax credits; retail shops; offices; and a food/dining complex. Headed up by developer Jeffrey N. Cohen, the first phase’s 56 units, to be constructed in two buildings, will be designated for households earning less than 60 percent of the area median income (AMI), with eight units restricted to households earning less than 30 percent of the AMI and even transitioning from homelessness.
At the session, the Select Board also:
- Heard Lee Youth Commission Chair Kathy Hall inform members that new equipment at the Bradley Street playground will be up in the next few weeks;
- Appointed alternate members Daniel Blaisdell to the Planning Board; Ashley Shepardson to the Board of Public Works; and Valerie Bluhm, Saha Fogerty, Gerard Fogerty, Jennifer Heath, and Catherine Laird to the Appalachian Trail Committee;
- Appointed Bob Jones to serve as alternate delegate to the Berkshire Regional Planning Committee;
- Approved an amended aggregation plan as the next step in the process to bring together town consumers and provide negotiating might for better power rates;
- With Member Gordon Bailey recused, approved a one-day beer and wine license to the Masonic Lodge;
- Approved a temporary sign permit to the Lee Historical Society; and
- Approved Berkshire Gas permits at 245 Fairview and 39 West Center streets.
