Abrahams and others ran unchallenged in GB elections

Selectboard member Ed Abrahams was set to face a challenger, Michelle Loubert of the finance committee.

Editor’s note: This story and the headline have been revised to reflect the fact that only one seat was open on the Housing Authority.

Great Barrington — Great Barrington’s annual town election this year was unusual on two levels: it took place on June 30 during a global pandemic and none of the seats were contested (normally the election is held in May).

Selectboard member Ed Abrahams was set to face a challenger, Michelle Loubert of the finance committee. But Loubert withdrew after the pandemic made its presence felt, so Abrahams coasted to a third three-year term.

Others who ran unchallenged (click here to see the ballot and the preliminary results) include: Ruby Chang (board of health); Anne O’Dwyer (finance committee); Margaret Heilbrun and Christopher Tucci (library trustees); Malcolm Fick and Jonathan Hankin (planning board); Michael Wise (town moderator); Ron Majdalany and Michael Wise (zoning board of appeals); and Louis Delmasto (housing authority).

Cara Becker received support as a write-in candidate against Delmasto for the Housing Authority seat but garnered only 61 votes to Delmasto’s 356.

A ballot item to override Proposition 2½ in order to fund building improvements to Town Hall and the Mason and Ramsdell libraries passed by a margin of 358-132. Great Barrington has a total of 4,914 registered voters, and 515 voted in the election for a turnout of almost 10.5 percent.
