Harold D. Hayes, 85, of New Marlborough

He graduated from the New Marlborough School. Before retiring 15 years ago, he ran and owned Mount Everett school buses and was a paint contractor.

Harold D. (Hundred Dollar) Hayes passes away quietly Tuesday, February 24 at Fairview Hospital of Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 85. He was born in Great Barrington the son of Patrick and Margaret Hayes. He graduated from the New Marlborough School. Before retiring 15 years ago, he ran and owned Mount Everett school buses and was a paint contractor.

He is survived by his wife Gretchen, daughter Kathleen Hayes Cooney of Boca Raton, Fla., her husband Michael Cooney, and three grandsons Kevin, Ryan, and Daniel; daughter Karen Hayes of Sheffield. A daughter, Kelley Hayes Barriga of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., predeceased him.

Funeral services for Harold D. Hayes, who died February 24, will be held on Saturday, February 28, at 11 a.m. with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Valley Church with the Rev. Bruce N. Teague, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Mill River Center Cemetery.

Family will receive friends on Friday February 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in Harold’s memory may be made to Parkinson’s Disease Foundation or Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home at 33 South Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230.
