Edward Anthony Pothul, 74, of Lime Kiln Road in Sheffield passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 5, 2015 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
A native and lifelong resident of the area Edward was born in Great Barrington on June 14, 1940, the son of Marcel and Sadie Murach Pothul. He attended schools in Housatonic and Great Barrington.
Mr. Pothul owned and operated his farm on Lime Kiln Road. He was known for having a “green thumb,” especially when it came to flowers and vegetables. He was a talented woodworker; however, he found no greater joy than spending time with family and friends. He told great stories and his grandchildren loved to hear them.
Ed is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years Hazel Hudson Pothul. The couple was married on July 23, 1960 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Stockbridge. He also leaves three sons; Edward Jr., of Brenham, Texas; John and his wife Sandra and Steven and his wife Lori all of Sheffield; his daughter Jennifer Kergaravat and her longtime companion Charles Spirydowski of Housatonic; his sister Maryann Fox and her husband Harry of Feeding Hills, Mass.; his grandchildren, Melinda Wald and her husband Jesse, John Pothul, Jr., Thomas, Adam, Ashley, Bethany and Shaun Pothul, Ronald and Elizabeth Leffingwell, Brittany Kergarvat and Samantha Spirydowski and 11 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brother Marcel and his great granddaughter Addisyn Pothul.
The funeral was held on Friday, January 9th at 11 a.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington, conducted by Rev. Charles VanAusdall. Burial will be in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in Sheffield.
