David Raynolds Merrill, 92, of Lenox

He was a bright light who will be missed by many and most especially by the Kimball Farms community, of which he himself said, “It doesn’t get any better.”

Kimball Farms resident David Raynolds Merrill peacefully and contentedly passed away in his own apartment there on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, with his devoted and beloved cat Katuschka by his side. He had sustained a broken hip from a fall 10 days prior, and requested to be discharged from the hospital immediately following his fall in order to spend his final days surrounded by his friends, family, and his “guardian cat.” He was a bright light who will be missed by many and most especially by the Kimball Farms community, of which he himself said, “It doesn’t get any better.”

He is survived by his son David and daughters Rebecca and Serena, as well as a grandson and granddaughter, Robin and Alexandra. He was 92 years old. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held in the Kimball Farms auditorium Friday, August 14, with music and refreshments from 2-3 p.m.. All are welcome to attend. Very special thanks to all at Hospicecare in the Berkshires who helped make his last days the very best they could possibly be.
