News Briefs: Kennedys surprise guests at Fairview gala to honor Eugene Dellea; Rock the Community

Rock the Community will involve more than 150 students, faculty, and staff volunteering approximately 400 hours of service to community projects.

To honor Fairview Hospital CEO Eugene Dellea, gala gets surprise visit from the Kennedys

Great Barrington — Fairview Hospital celebrated its 2016 gala on Saturday, Sept. 24, with special guests Mrs. Vicki Kennedy, U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy III, and U.S. Rep. Richard Neal, who joined the southern Berkshire community to honor Fairview Hospital President Eugene Dellea. Dellea, a close friend of the Kennedy family for more than 50 years, worked with the late Sen. Edward Kennedy in 2002 to facilitate Fairview’s Critical Access Hospital status. The gala, which took place at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center and was emceed by State Rep. William “Smitty” Pignatelli, was headlined by comedian Paul Reiser and highlighted Fairview’s cardiac services.

Simon’s Rock to hold community-wide day of service

Great Barrington — On Friday, Sept. 30, Bard College at Simon’s Rock will hold its fifth annual Rock the Community day of service, which was established to celebrate the leadership of Emily Fisher, former chair of the College’s board of overseers. More than 150 students, faculty, and staff will volunteer approximately 400 hours of service to community projects. Volunteers will travel to sites in South County to perform a variety of activities from clearing trails to basic maintenance on buildings.
