THEN & NOW: Monterey village

Speeding through town was apparently a problem even back then. A sign on the back of an old pickup truck states “This Is God’s Country, So Don’t Go Like Hell.”

The village of Monterey had its own Mobil Gas station when the photograph above was taken in the 1930s. A careful examination shows a prized elm tree growing through the porch roof of the home in the background. Speeding through town was apparently a problem even back then. A sign on the back of an old pickup truck states “This Is God’s Country, So Don’t Go Like Hell.” Looking east, the same present-day view is shown below.
