Richard Joseph Melluzzo, 70, of Great Barrington, Massachusetts passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021. While battling cancer, his mantra was to live one day longer so he could have more time with his family and friends who were his lifeblood. He was truly blessed with great family and friends, whose loyalty and love were unparalleled.
Richard and Patrice relocated from Hartford, Connecticut to Great Barrington in 1976 and built a wonderful life full of community and friendship. Richard served on the Board of Selectmen and the Finance Committee collectively for 10 years. He never met anyone that was a stranger for long — his personality and ability as a raconteur put everyone at ease and they quickly felt they were a friend.

Richard knew from an early age that the mental health field was his destined vocation. This career provided him with 42 years of challenges, fulfillment, and accomplishments. Serving his clients was a passion and he was proud of their many achievements. He was heartened at the lessons he learned from his clients through their hard work and bravery in facing lifelong issues.
Richard was devoted to his family, friends, and clients. He saw the best in people and, more importantly, helped them realize it, too. He will be remembered for his desire and willingness to help those in need with compassion and dignity (especially if they were wearing a Red Sox hat).
Richard is survived by Patrice, his wife of 48 years and his inspiration. He is also survived by his two sons and their families: Bryant, his wife Shannon, and their children Xander and Marabella; and Daniel, his wife Holly, and their daughters Ava and Olive. Richard’s love for and devotion to his grandchildren was inexhaustible.
He was predeceased by his sister Theresa Melluzzo Voss, and their parents Salvatore and Concetta Melluzzo.
Services: The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 27, 2021, from 4–7 p.m. at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington. The Liturgy of Christian Burial, conducted by Rev. William P. Murphy, Pastor, will take place Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 213 Main Street in Great Barrington.
