Alta L. Skorput, 97

Alta Skorput earned her Master’s degree in Education and taught third grade for many years at the Stockbridge Plain School in Stockbridge.

West Stockbridge — Alta L. Skorput, 97, formerly of West Stockbridge, passed away peacefully in Venice, Fl., on October 22, 2014. Alta and her husband, John, resided in Venice, Fl., for the last 26 years where she made numerous friends.

Alta was born on November 6, 1916 in Perth Amboy, N.J., the daughter of the late George and Anna Larson.

She attended Perth Amboy New Jersey High School and Beaver College where she earned her Master’s degree in Education. She taught third grade for many years at the Stockbridge Plain School in Stockbridge, Mass.

Alta is survived by her loving husband, John Skorput, her son George “Bud” Jastram, Jr. and his wife Sally of Venice, Fl., and her daughter Christine Ragsdale and her husband Steve of Plainfield, Ind. She also leaves five grandsons and seven great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Dr. George B. Jastram, Jr., her sisters Regina, Ruth and Helen, and her brother George.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 1 at 11 a.m. at West Stockbridge Village Cemetery on Albany Road, conducted by Rev. Shawn E. Bracebridge.

Donations in Alta’s memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires through FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Remembrances may be sent to her family through Finnerty & Stevens.
