Xavier Matthew Powell, 29, of Pittsfield

Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on August 24, 2024, at the Roche Funeral Home. There will be a Celebration of Xavier’s life held at Zucchini’s Restaurant on North Street in Pittsfield beginning at 1 p.m.

Xavier Matthew Powell, 29, of Pittsfield, died unexpectedly on Sunday, August 11, 2024. Born in Pittsfield on September 30, 1994, to Derek and Pamela Powell, he attended Pittsfield High School and was a 2013 graduate. After high school, Xavier went to Hudson Valley Community College, where he earned his degree in auto mechanics. He worked as a mechanic before deciding to enlist in the Army National Guard. He was currently stationed in Army Aviation Support Facility 1 at Joint Base Cape Cod, ranked as Specialist and a Veteran, where he was a helicopter mechanic. Xavier was most proud of being in the military.

Xavier enjoyed photography, traveling across the country, spending time with family and friends, vacationing in Gloucester with his grandparents, riding his motorcycle, camping, running with his dad and brother, working out with his roommate Connor, campfires with his friend Farron, attending concerts and festivals, and collecting vintage items.

Besides his parents, Derek and Pamela Powell of Pittsfield, Xavier is survived by his siblings, Austin and Zabion Powell; his sister-in-law Eleanor Gubbins of Pittsfield; his paternal great-grandmother Shirley Jones; his paternal grandparents, Sheila and Steve Jones; his maternal grandparents, Lisa and William Henningson; many aunts and uncles, including Leon and Ashley McCluskey, Marissa and Jeffrey Carvelli, and Lori and Ariel Aspiras; and his numerous cousins, Camron, Justice, Raelyn, Titan, Noah, Nick, Grace, Ava, and Lana. He is also survived by many beloved friends and extended family.

Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on August 24, 2024, at the Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240. There will be a Celebration of Xavier’s life held at Zucchini’s Restaurant on North Street in Pittsfield beginning at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Xavier’s memory may be made to Wounded Warrior’s in care of the funeral home. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 10 a.m., at St. Ann Church with Monsignor John Bonzagni officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Pittsfield.
