William Murray Jr., 72, of Housatonic

William Martin Murray Jr. 72, of Housatonic died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

William was born Sept. 8, 1947, in Great Barrington, son of William Martin Sr. and Antoinette Mary (Wool) Murray. He was a 1965 graduate of the former Searles High School. After graduating from UMass Amherst in 1970 with a Bachelor of Business Administration, Bill moved to California and worked at a CPA firm in Santa Monica. Returning to Massachusetts in 1976, he worked as a town auditor for the state of Massachusetts. In the early 1980s, Bill lived in Carson City, Nevada. He was a Medicare auditor for Aetna insurance. After leaving Nevada, he lived in Kingston, New York, and worked as an accountant for a nursing home. Then, in the 1990s, he returned to Massachusetts and worked as an accountant for the town of Lanesborough. Before retiring in 2009, he worked at the National Shrine of Divine Mercy in Stockbridge. He loved golfing, fishing with his small boat on local lakes, watching the Red Sox and Patriots games, family picnics and celebrations. William was a member of Corpus Christi Church, Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish.

William is survived by sister Mary-Anne Murray of Great Barrington; sister-in-law Barbara Murray of Hurst, Texas; brother-in-law William L. Capocci Jr. of Whitman; two nephews: Joel Thomas (Kelly) Murray and William L. (Amy) Capocci III; and four nieces: Kimberly (Dave) Capocci Corbett, Anne-Marie (Cary) Lofton, Carolyn M. Murray, and Katherine M. Murray. In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by one brother, John Patrick Murray; and sister Jo-Anne Capocci.

A funeral Mass for William was held Friday, Oct. 18, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi Church, Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish with Rev. William P. Murphy officiating. Burial followed in St Bridget’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Corpus Christi Restoration Fund in care of the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington MA, 01230.
