William L. Wuori, 91, of Sheffield and Great Barrington

Bill spent 29 years working for Eldred Stanton at the former Stanton’s Garage in Mill River. For 14 years, he operated his own auto repair business at his County Road home in Sheffield.

William Wuori, age 91, died June 10, 2015 at Fairview Commons. He was born August 6, 1923 in Southfield, Mass., son of William W. Wuori and Bernice Cruikshank Anderson. Bill married the former Ruth Stevens in Sheffield on June 16, 1946. After living in their home in Sheffield for 54 years, they moved to Great Barrington where she became his sole caregiver during his last two years, as his health declined due to dementia.

Bill attended the Mill River School followed by employment at Royal Typewriter in Hartford. During World War II he worked at New Departure in Bristol, Conn., then spent 29 years working for Eldred Stanton at the former Stanton’s Garage in Mill River. For 14 years, he operated his own auto repair business at his County Road home in Sheffield.

After retiring, he enjoyed working part-time as a driver for local car dealerships and livery services. He enjoyed driving and traveling and loved to study his Rand McNally Road Atlas. Bill spent more than 20 years collecting sap to make maple syrup. In his earlier years, he enjoyed bowling and square dancing.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his six daughters and three sons: Linda (Paul) Delmolino of Cumming, Ga.; Gail (Leonce) Roger of Great Barrington; Adele (Robert) Reilly of Sheffield; Marcia (John) Haley of Waynesboro, Penn.; Elaine (Gordon) Ciochon of Sonoma, Calif.; Robert (Sharon Bowler) of Southfield; Thomas of Mill River; Richard of Mill River; and Laurie (Nicholas) Pshenishny of Pittsfield. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Michael, Rebecca, Rachel, Travis, Bryanna, Alana, Zachary and Kyle and two great granddaughters Addisyn and Wyaitt, as well as his sisters Janet Wuori of Green Valley, Ariz., and Lucy (Michael) Britton of Mill River. He was predeceased by his sister, Helen Bachetti, and his daughter-in-law, Karen Wuori.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, Mass., will be Saturday, June 20 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed immediately by a service. Memorial donations may be made to the Sheffield Fire Department or Elder Services of the Berkshires in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be made through birchesroyfuneralservices.com.

Thomas P. Atwood, 86, of Great Barrington

A Funeral Mass for Thomas P. Atwood will be held on Monday, January 27, at 10 a.m., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Saint Peter’s Church in Great Barrington, with Reverend William P. Murphy Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Peter’s Cemetery.

Maureen Jane Johnson Hickey, 86, of Great Barrington and Naples, Fla.

There will be a private burial at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Great Barrington, with a memorial service in the spring.
