To the editor:
Well, well. So U.S. Rep Richard Neal can make a public statement! True, he had to follow the lead of others in the Massachusetts congressional delegate to decry the illegal invasion of Venezuela. But at least he added his name. And he voted against tabling the bill to impeach our lawless administration. It is great that he is able to follow leadership. But, where is his statement about the housing crises in his district, the food crises in his district, the medical insurance crises in his district? And now a mom is killed in Minnesota by ICE and a couple shot in Oregon and he is silent. When is he going to come to Pittsfield and report to his constituents about his plans to make our lives better? On so many issues, he is so quiet.
These are extraordinary times with an autocrat in the White House and people hurting. Fortunately, there is an articulate, energetic replacement on the scene. Jeromie Whalen of South Hadley has been in the Berkshires more in the last couple of months than Neal has been in the last couple of years. Whalen understands our situation and is in the game. Neal seems to be waiting for someone to follow. Check out Whalenforcongressma.com. Whalen is one of us. Neal is… crickets.
