West Stockbridge — In response to this week’s anticipated heatwave, the Town of West Stockbridge is opening its Town Hall Community Room and West Stockbridge Public Library from June 18 through June 21 as cooling stations for residents who are without air conditioning, according to a news release, with those dates forecast by the National Weather Service as inclusive for an area-wide heatwave. Both facilities are located at 21 State Line Road and will operate as daily relief stations during the heatwave, with the library open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. including the Juneteenth holiday on Wednesday, and the Community Room open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
On June 17, the National Weather Service posted a heat advisory for Berkshire County and Connecticut’s Litchfield County from noon on June 18 to 8 p.m. on June 20, expecting hot temperatures and high humidity that may cause heat illnesses.
“The Town encourages residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activities, and check on vulnerable neighbors and family members during this period of extreme heat,” the release stated.
