To the editor:
I know Roger Kavanaugh, now of New York, was a West Stockbridge Select Board member who until recently was devoted to that job. But I am surprised that he wants citizens who have a disagreement about an agreement reached with the blessing of the Select Board to settle their arguments privately.
What is needed is strict, unbiased enforcement of the zoning bylaws and the permits issued by town boards and the town meeting. In this case, regarding the mutual obligations of The Foundry and Truc’s Orient Express.
If the town has to buy or rent a sound monitor, so be it. If the building inspector, who is obliged to enforce the town’s zoning bylaws and permits, does not want to do that (he has not, if news reports are to be believed) then he should resign or appoint a deputy who doesn’t mind going out at night (or whenever) to investigate problems in the community.
Let’s get this mess behind us by playing by the rules.
