Warren R. ‘Bud’ Candee, 88, of Egremont

Warren R. “Bud” Candee, 88, of Hillsdale Road in Egremont, died on March 19, 2024 at Fairview Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Great Barrington. Born on December 28, 1935, in Canaan, Conn., he was the son of Warren M. Candee and Gertrude Ubbink Candee.

In retirement, Bud refused to slow down. He continued to run a property-maintenance business and kept busy milling lumber on his Woodmizer Sawmill. He won esteemed awards for his custom-built cabin and barn. He also loved vegetable gardening, land clearing, tinkering with mechanical engines, and helping friends and neighbors whenever possible.

Bud is survived by his wife of 69 years, Evelyn (Flusaro) Candee. The couple was married October 15, 1954, in Hillsdale, N.Y. He also leaves behind his children, Ann Marie Hart of Monterey, Richard Candee of Housatonic, Robert Candee of Monterey, and Mark Candee of Severn, Md. He is also survived by six siblings, Sherri Roberts, Mari Gasperini, Tom Candee, Howard Candee, Laurel Ellis, and Allen Bills, as well as seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six siblings, Bettie Wheeler, Theo Candee, Jim Candee, Marshal Bills, Marlynn Pierce, and Norman Bills.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced. Donations in memory of Warren “Bud” Candee may be made to either the Berkshire Humane Society or Sheffield Kiwanis in care of Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230. Funeral Mass for Robert F. "Bob" Keefner will be held on Friday, May 23, at 10 a.m., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Saint Peter’s Church in Great Barrington with Reverend William P. Murphy Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
