Virginia Niewinski, 91, of Great Barrington died Friday, March 22, 2024, at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington. Virginia was born in Cieciory, Poland on July 8, 1932, the daughter of Stanislaw and Wladyslawa (Serowik) Kozlowski.

After graduating high school, Virginia worked for the Rice Silk Mill in Pittsfield, for Berkshire Hills Regional School District in the 1970s at Searles School, and at Timberlyn Heights from 1982 to 2010. Virginia was a member of the St. Peter’s Women’s Guild, a worker at church functions, a member of the Rosary Sodality at the former All Saint’s (now Corpus Christi Church Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish), and a volunteer at the Claire Teague Senior Center.
Virginia’s husband Edward J. Niewinski, whom she married on July 4, 1959, predeceased her on July 20, 2000. Virginia is survived by two sons, David E. Niewinski of Monterey and Daniel N. Niewinski of Lenox, and one daughter, Diane C. Niewinski of Great Barrington, with whom she lived. In addition to her husband, Virginia was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and Edward Kozlowski, and one sister, Sophie Smith.
A Funeral Mass for Virginia Niewinski will be held on Tuesday, March 26, at 10 a.m., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Saint Peter’s Church in Great Barrington with Reverend William P. Murphy Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Bridget’s Cemetery in Housatonic. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 26, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Virginia’s memory may be made to either Saint Peter’s Maintenance Fund or S.B.V.A.S. in care of the funeral home.
