Virginia M. Palfini 90, of New Marlborough died Saturday February 21, 2015 at Fairview Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Great Barrington with her family by her side.
She was born in Great Barrington on March 22, 1924, daughter of Robert and Freda (Hamm) Supernaugh, and was educated in local schools. She graduated from the former Searles High School in the class of 1942.
Virginia once worked as a meat wrapper at the First National supermarket in Canaan, Conn., as a sewer at Monument Mills in Housatonic, and at the General Electric in Norfolk, Conn., but mainly she was a homemaker and cared for her home and family with pride.
Virginia enjoyed knitting, bowling, sewing, tap dancing and playing cards. She was an avid baker, known for giving friends and neighbors her pies and cookies. She was also very involved in her church, Immaculate Conception in New Marlborough where she was a member of the Willing Workers and for many years devoted her time to keeping all the Altar linens clean and pressed.
Virginia was predeceased by her first husband Gidio Zucco who died in June of 1957 and her second husband Joseph Palfini who died August 10, 1998.
Virginia is survived by one daughter, Cindy Duryea of Lee, Mass., one son, Richard Zucco of Chatham, N.Y.; three stepdaughters, Peggy Sullivan of Great Barrington, Emily Strong of Somers, N.Y. and Rosemary Palfini of Nashua, N.H.; one stepson, Joseph Palfini of Southington, Conn.; one sister, Sylvia Decker of Pittsfield; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, Gidio Zucco and Joseph Palfini, Virginia was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Kosakowski and Betty White, two brothers, Robert Supernaugh and Edward Supernaugh, and grandson, Robert Zucco.
Funeral services for Virginia M. Palfini who died February 21, will be held on Thursday, February 26, at 10 a.m. with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Peter’s Church in Great Barrington with the Reverend William P. Murphy, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Canaan Conn. Family will receive friends on Wednesday February 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME 33 South Street, Great Barrington, MA. 01230. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in Virginia’s memory may be made to Immaculate Conception Building Fund or Hospice Care in the Berkshires.
