I served as executive producer of âGood Morning Americaâ for many years. And while Bidenâs withdrawal from the re-election campaign may remind people of LBJ, that was nothing like this.
I met President Biden on a television show, one of the first I worked on, immediately after he became the senator from Delaware. He was a young man, full of energy and so kind to this 21-year-old news neophyte producing the program. I was first going to write here about how despicable Trump, his vice-presidential choice and others were in their statements after one of the true fighters for democracy had to make a heartbreaking decision. But then, as it was the only channel I could find where I was staying, I ended up watching Fox News, something I otherwise would never have done. To my amazement, the channel was unbelievably kind in their conversation about the president, showed the many emails and texts that came in praising him, and put together a video of some of his presidential moments. For the first time ever, I cannot say negative things about my formerly most hated network.
I agree with the people who praise the president for all he has done for the country and, as he will remain in office until January, I have no doubt there will be more praiseworthy activities. As for Vice President Harris, we are so lucky to have her. While in the shadows for these three and a half years, she did what a vice president doesâ what she was directed to do. I applaud the possibility of her becoming our president, not because she is a woman, or a woman of color, but because she is smart and has held governmental offices that have given her the knowledge needed to run our country and to keep democracy in the forefront of all she does.
So, wow! I have met all our presidents since 2003 when I started my career in television. President Biden was one of the kindest, smartest, most dedicated to our country. I am so proud of having met him in his governmental infancy and to know the man he has become.
