To the editor:
I am writing in full support of Lucinda Vermeulen for the office of selectman in Egremont.
My wife and I have had a home in Egremont for 17 years and lived here full-time for the last six years. We came to know Lucinda many years ago through her family’s business and various town activities. More recently, I have worked with her on important town questions such as bringing Fiber Connect to Egremont and securing the future of the Congregational church as a town landmark.
In all these ways, I have come to appreciate Lucinda’s commitment to Egremont’s community, livelihoods, inclusiveness, environment, beauty and distinctive history. I believe Lucinda would be a responsive and responsible steward of the town’s current governance with, importantly, an eye to our future. Small New England towns will not be able to preserve their character and openness if they do not take account of the changes in the world around us.
Lucinda is a businesswoman who is deeply public-spirited. Her family business has succeeded over decades because it has adapted to changing tastes and markets, all the while remaining a valuable contributor to Egremont’s well-being.
Lucinda Vermeulen is the right choice for the board of selectman in 2019.
