News and Ideas Worth Sharing

Update from Great Barrington Fire Department regarding the Butternut Fire

The outpouring of support and encouragement from our community – especially the children who flooded our station with cards, drawings, and letters – makes this job worth it.

Good Evening.

Today’s rain helped to dampen the ground and keep the reports of smoke and flares to a minimum. A lot of what was observed is steam and fog. Crews focused on monitoring today – with no real developments.

Patrols and observations will continue through the night.

With so little report – now is the perfect time to share a little heartwarming news. The outpouring of support and encouragement from our community – especially the children who flooded our station with cards, drawings, and letters – makes this job worth it. There is no better feeling than returning to the station after a long hard day of work to an overwhelming display of inspiration. This is just a small sample of the cards – taken early in the fire. We will post more pictures in the days to come.

From the bottom of our hearts – Thank you.

We will continue to update as necessary.
