United Healthcare Workers East endorses Leigh Davis for state representative

“Healthcare workers know that Leigh Davis will stand up for working people and those we care for in the legislature. We’re proud to stand with her and support her election as state representative for the 3rd Berkshire District,” said 1199SEIU Executive Vice President Tim Foley.

Great Barrington — Leigh Davis announced today that she has earned the endorsement of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East for her candidacy for state representative of the 3rd Berkshire District. 1199SEIU is the largest union of healthcare employees in the United States, representing more than 450,000 healthcare workers in Massachusetts; Maryland; New York; New Jersey; Florida; and Washington, D.C. In Massachusetts, the union represents over 80,000 members working in hospitals, community health centers, nursing homes, and providing home care in communities across the Commonwealth.

“Healthcare workers know that Leigh Davis will stand up for working people and those we care for in the legislature. We’re proud to stand with her and support her election as state representative for the 3rd Berkshire District,” said 1199SEIU Executive Vice President Tim Foley. “As a longtime union member with a strong record of local leadership on affordable housing and economic development, Leigh has the experience to make a difference on day one at the State House, and she’s committed to protecting access to quality and affordable healthcare. In the legislature, she’ll work to strengthen our healthcare system, support racial justice, and support the broad priorities of our members, from affordable housing and childcare to higher wages and fair working conditions for critical healthcare workers.”

“I am grateful and honored that 1199SEIU representing frontline healthcare workers in Massachusetts have endorsed me as their champion in the 3rd Berkshire District,” said Davis. “SEIU members are the backbone of our community support networks, the professionals we trust to care for us and keep us safe, often when we are most vulnerable. As a former caregiver for both of my parents, a hospice volunteer, member of the development committee for Volunteers in Medicine, and someone who has also needed the assistance of their members on more than one occasion, I deeply respect their integrity and dedication to their work. As state representative, I will support SEIU’s pursuit of fair wages, safe working conditions, equal opportunities for advancement, and social and economic equity.”

This announcement follows Davis’s endorsements by the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund, Massachusetts AFL-CIO, Massachusetts Nurses Association, Progressive Mass, and the 1866 Action Fund.

Leigh Davis is the vice chair of the Great Barrington Selectboard, communications director at Construct, a 1Berkshire board director, and a member of the Lake Mansfield Improvement Task Force and the W.E.B. Du Bois Legacy Committee. To learn more about Leigh, visit her campaign’s website.
