To the editor:
In the wall-to-wall coverage of the shooting on Saturday night, two things seem to be missing.
Most important: Donald Trump has fed the fires of political violence for years. His calls for retribution, “stand back and stand by,” “good people on both sides”; his pandering about gun control; and, of course, the vicious rhetoric of January 6. Am I the only one who finds the irony of a gun attack on him—since he has called for so much violence aimed at his “enemies”—beyond ironic?
Second, is anyone even considering the possibility that this attack was a false flag, planned and executed by Trump himself? I offer the following evidence: We know he is truly capable of anything, without moral or ethical guard rails if he thinks it furthers his demented ambition. The “injury” he experienced was little more than would have occurred if he had cut himself shaving. His defiant fist-pumping exit from the rally stage; the cheers of the crowd at “USA, USA” (when did the name of my beloved country become a fascist curse?); and the nauseating falling in line of the Republicans to pledge loyalty and pointing fingers at the Democrats and the media. All predictable and possibly orchestrated.
And think about the predictions that this event wins him the election. Right out of the Trump playbook.
When that photo of Trump being hustled off the stage and raising his fist gets put on a T-shirt from the Trump campaign, you heard it here first.
