Two-car crash near Monument Mountain claims life of Great Barrington woman

A 2008 Toyota Tundra driven by a 28-year-old Monterey woman was traveling north when it collided with a 2008 Subaru Forester attempting to exit Lovers Lane.

Great Barrington — At approximately 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 28, Great Barrington police, fire and emergency medical services responded to a fatal two-car motor vehicle crash on Stockbridge Road near the intersection with Lovers Lane, Great Barrington Police Sgt. Adam Carlotto said in a written statement Monday evening.

A 2008 Toyota Tundra driven by a 28-year-old Monterey woman was traveling north when it collided with a 2008 Subaru Forester attempting to exit Lovers Lane. The driver of the Subaru, a 92-year-old Great Barrington woman, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene. Carlotto did not disclose the identity of driver of the Toyota or the name of the deceased victim.

The driver of the Toyota was transported by Southern Berkshire Ambulance to Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. A portion of Stockbridge Road/Route 7 was closed for five hours and traffic was detoured while officials worked the scene.

Great Barrington Police, Massachusetts State Police and the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office are investigating. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who saw the vehicles before the incident is asked to contact Sgt. Carlotto at the Great Barrington Police Department (413) 528-0306 x143.
