Two arrested in Tractor Supply store theft in Great Barrington

Mendez and Garcia are being investigated for their possible connection with a larger-scale retail theft ring in the Northeast involving several Tractor Supply stores.

Great Barrington — Two men from Bronx, N.Y., were arrested for stealing power tools from the town’s Tractor Supply store on Stockbridge Road.

According to a press release issued by the town’s Police Department, the incident took place on Wednesday, August 28. Officers were dispatched to the store around 2:25 p.m.

According to Chief Paul Storti, during the incident an alarm was set off and the two individuals, Nixon Alberto Carodozo Mendez, 21, and Keiver David Gomez Garcia, 20, fled from the rear of the store.

Employees at the store observed Mendez and Garcia driving away in a white Nissan Sedan with a temporary Florida license plate. As the police officers arrived at the scene, employees at Tractor Supply pointed out the vehicle in which Mendez and Garcia were fleeing.

The two were eventually taken into custody after a traffic stop.

According to Storti, a warrant check revealed that Mendez has an active arrest warrant from Hanover, Mass., for a similar theft from a Tractor Supply store.

Mendez and Garcia are being investigated for their possible connection with a larger-scale retail theft ring in the Northeast involving several Tractor Supply stores.

Mendez and Garcia were transported to the town’s Police Station, and their bail was set at $2,000 by Southern Berkshire District Court.

Mendez and Garcia posted bail and were released from custody, with a future court date of September 12.

Mendez has been charged with:

  • Unlicensed operation in violation of MGL. 90/10;
  • Attaching plates to conceal the identity of a motor vehicle 90/23;
  • Larceny over $1,200 in violation of MGL 266/30; and
  • Shoplifting in violation of MGL 266/30A.

Garcia has been charged with:

  • Larceny over $1,200 in violation of MGL 266/30 and
  • Shoplifting in violation of MGL 266/30A.
