Great Barrington — The town’s Rotary Club held its annual Truck Day and Pumpkin Fest at Ski Butternut on Sunday, October 15. The event was a fundraiser for the club’s projects, along with organizations the club works with, including the Berkshire South Regional Community Center, Community Access to the Arts, Fairview Hospital, The People’s Pantry, Railroad Street Youth Project, the Watson Fund, and various scholarships for graduates from local schools.
At the event, children got to see and explore various trucks and vehicles from local businesses and organizations, including the Great Barrington Police Department and Fire Department, Southern Berkshire Ambulance, UPS, The Haupt Tree Company, Whalen Nursery Inc., Four One Tree & Landscape, and other companies from around the Berkshire County area.

The event also included a kids truck pull, a duck race, a pumpkin drop, and pumpkin decorating.

“We’ve been holding this event for years because we love doing things for the community,” Great Barrington Rotary Club President Gideon Brown told The Berkshire Edge. “This is a big event for people who have little children. We’re raising a lot of money through this event.”

“The Rotary Club is a wonderful organization,” member Stephanie Carlson said. “The club does a lot of great things for the community. Every year, we’ve raised at least $50,000 for scholarships for local high school students. To me, the community is better off with having the Rotary Club.”
Member Ted Okun said that his father was a Rotarian and inspired him to join the club. “We’re all proud to be part of this community,” Okun said. “And why do we have a ‘Truck Day’? It’s because children love trucks. To me, there’s not enough stuff for children to do around here. With this event, we’re trying to fulfill the need to have family events.”
