Thomas P. Atwood, 86, of Great Barrington

A Funeral Mass for Thomas P. Atwood will be held on Monday, January 27, at 10 a.m., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Saint Peter’s Church in Great Barrington, with Reverend William P. Murphy Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Peter’s Cemetery.

Thomas P. Atwood, 86, of Great Barrington, died Tuesday January 21, 2025, at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. He was born on March 18, 1938, the son of George R. Atwood Jr. and Helen B. (Verchot) Atwood. He graduated from the former Searles High School in the class of 1956 and Pittsfield Vocational Auto Mechanics.

Tom formerly worked maintenance at Eisner Camp since 1995 and formerly as a shift supervisor at Sheffield Plastics from 1960 to 1986. He was a member of the Hope Fire Co. from 1966 to 1987, retiring as a lieutenant. He was instrumental in rebuilding the 1854 Button Pumper in 1976.

Tom was a former member of Wyantenuck Country Club and Saint Peter’s Church where he volunteered for various minor repair projects and enjoyed woodworking projects and working outdoors.

Tom is survived by his wife Marlene (Seward) Atwood of Great Barrington, whom he married January 30, 1981, at Our Lady of the Valley; his son Matthew Atwood (Suzanne) of Ballston Spa N.Y.; his daughters, Patricia Miller (Joseph) of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Christine LaPorta of Ballston Spa, N.Y.; his stepsons, Thomas Torrico (Cathy) of Mt. Washington, James Torrico (Victorine) Mt. Washington, and Donald Torrico ( Jane Whittaker) of New Marlborough; his brother Richard B. Atwood of Housatonic; his sisters, Teresa Bannon (Stephen) of Great Barrington and Mary Ryan (David) of Hanson, Mass.; his grandchildren, Alexis and Erica Miller, Wesley and Michael Atwood, and Katherine, Cara, and John LaPorta; his step-grandchildren, Brian, Justin, Keith, Patricia, Chelsea, Garrett, and Ned Torrico and Amy Warner; four great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. Tom was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Boddie.

A Funeral Mass for Thomas P. Atwood will be held on Monday, January 27, at 10 a.m., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Saint Peter’s Church in Great Barrington, with Reverend William P. Murphy Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Peter’s Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Monday, January 27, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Tom’s memory may be made to Saint Peter’s Restoration Fund in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be made through the funeral home’s website.

A memorial service will be held on Feb. 15, 2025, at 11 a.m., at the Roche Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be held at a later date in Otis Town Cemetery.

The family of Jesse W. Hankey will receive friends on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m., and on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home.

Linda Charlene Hebert, 90, of Monterey

A celebration of life for Linda and Bob will be planned for later this year.
