The F-2 Mexican Novelty Barn was a gift shop on North Main Street (Route 7) in Sheffield. Opened by Frank Zollner in the 1940s, it was one of several businesses operated by the entrepreneur and restaurateur. The barns and a guest house stood on a bluff overlooking the Sheffield covered bridge. The property had several other owners over the years—Earle Sutphen and Rosa Cavalier to name just a few. One of the barns evolved from a gift shop to an antiques shop. Eventually, the entire complex was torn down. A church and residence were constructed on the site. The church later became Salisbury Bank, now NBT Bank. There will be more about Frank Zollner, his neighboring restaurant, and the mystery of the name “F-2” in our next column.
