News and Ideas Worth Sharing

THEN & NOW: The East and Berkshire County Plumbing Supply on Stockbridge Road

The expanded building later housed an antiques flea market, an early version of Berkshire Community College South Campus, and other auto dealerships.

For a brief time in the mid-1960s, the Stockbridge Road site in Great Barrington shown above was Angelo’s Snack Bar. The building was expanded and became Bill Whittaker’s Ford-Mercury dealership in the late 1960s. Mr. Whittaker (1922–2012) was a legendary car salesman and auto dealership owner who was associated with most major car brands over five decades in different locations. The expanded building later housed an antiques flea market, an early version of Berkshire Community College South Campus, and other auto dealerships. As shown in the present-day photograph below, it is now home to The East — Asian Cuisine, as well as Berkshire County Plumbing Supply.
